Ilona (55), Irritable bowel syndrome

I now know what my body needs

Irritable bowel syndrome

For years I lived with stomach and belly trouble. Constant pain, frequent headaches, and a body that just never seemed to work with me. Most of the time I felt tired and uncomfortable, but every time I went to my GP, the tests came back with nothing.

That was the confusing part. You know something is wrong, but no one can tell you what. For a long time I simply put up with it, until I realised it did not have to stay this way.

It was not until I found guidance that actually explained how the gut works that things finally clicked. For the first time I understood what was going on inside my body, and why the same complaints kept coming back.

The changes that followed were big. My whole diet had to change. Foods that had always been completely normal for me, like bread, milk and eggs, had to go. That took some getting used to. I had always been a real bread lover, and I had to relearn how to look at what I was eating.

In the beginning it was a lot of trial and error. Shopping took longer and I had to read every label. Some days it felt like hard work, but I always knew why I was doing it. Slowly my body started to shift. The belly pain faded. My stomach settled down. The headaches eased off. I had more energy than I had felt in years.

What surprised me most was how natural it all became in the end. The way I ate had changed, but it no longer felt like a restriction. I know now what my body needs and what it does not, and that gives me a real sense of calm and confidence.

These days I am almost completely free of symptoms. And when something does not agree with me, I know exactly what to do. No more second-guessing, no more searching. Things are good, and I intend to keep them that way.
